Hi, how are you doing?
First of all, you guys are not very known yet. Can you
give us a short introduction of your band?
Iván (vocals and sequences): Hi Gerardo, we are
doing ok and we're happy to finally have the band fully
established. VIGILANTE is born of the initiative for
creating a project that could engage Electronic, Metal
and Industrial music, with a strong and direct "wake up
conscience" message. The crew is Rodrigo Ramirez playing
keyboards and sequences, I (Iván Muńoz) vocals and
sequences, Mario Chacana in the electronic percussion
and Rodrigo Albornoz on guitars.
The band was formed by you and Rodrigo, because you
wanted to give birth to your passions of industrial,
metal and electronic. When was the project born and what
bands influenced you guys?
Iván: Our interest began many years ago (10 or
more), back then, me and Rodrigo R. worked together
trying to make music with a Casio keyboard, a guitar, a
distortion pedal and lots of anger. Bands that have
influenced us have been Die Krupps, Front Line Assembly,
KMFDM, Birmingham 6, Fear Factory, Ministry, Front 242,
Nine Inch Nails, etc...
Chile isn't really known because of it's metalbands
or it's industrial bands. How do the people react to
Vigilante?
Iván: People’s reaction is good because we are
offering something different, not the local metal or
techno.
You released a three-track promo to get promotion and
to find a label. Are there any labels in South America
who might be interested in releasing your debut album,
or do you prefer an European label?
Iván: There aren’t many labels in southamerica,
that is why we are seeking for options, actually, we are
having conversations with a german label right now who
may release our album there in Europe, but for now we
can only say that the album will be entitled “The heroes
code”.
The promo got good comments by our zine. What do you
think of it yourself?
Iván: We think that these songs reflect perfectly
what Vigilante is, through music and lyrics
The use of blastbeats is not a new thing, but not
much bands are using them. What did you decide to use
them?
Iván: You may say that we are like from the old
school and we like to use these classical elements. The
idea is to get together a mix of the old with a more
inovative sound.
We know that the main target for the future is to
find a label to release your debut. But what can we
expect more in the future?
Iván: Right now we are hoping to film a video for
the song “One good reason” as part of our promotional
campaign and also trying to arrange venues in Mexico or
Europe for the future.
Thanks a lot for the given time, and I wish you all
the luck finding an appropriate label. Like in every
interview, the final words are yours.
Iván: We just want to say the same thing we try
to say with our music. We believe that nowadays people
are getting colder with their own environment and with
the rest of the people who surrounds them, the world’s
progress is individualizing us and making us more
selfish. Through VIGILANTE we want to make people
question thing that are not right and find strength in
our music to try to change these things.
"We must find, just one good reason, a fire in the
cold!!!"
