Artist: CONTECHED
Album: In Poor Company
Year: 2009

One of The Netherlands' brightest hopes on the industrial metal edge is definitely Conteched. This four-piece, holding it's main office in Amsterdam, says to play 'Corporate Metal' - coming completely with the image of business people and the website built like it's a page of a major company. This band already released a very well recieved three-track promo named 'Criminal Industry', and is currently working on the debut full-lenght. To keep the people occupied, this band released this 'In Poor Company' EP in the meantime.

'In Poor Company' - the title track - is the first track of the release. Opening with soft breakbeat likely tunes, the song evolves into a brutal metal track when the riffing kicks in. The track contains diverse and bashing drumming, dark heavy riffing, hardcore vocal lines coming with a recogniseable chorus and subtile wellplaced sampling. 'Just A Moment' opens with electronic samples and straight to the point industrial riffing. Next to the recogniseable riffing the song contains powerful drumming and wellplaced brutal vocal lines. 'Breathing Sand' follows. It opens with heavy downtempo tunes, to be followed by an accessable midtempo industrial metal track with hardcore influences: heavy riffing mixed with brutal hardcoreish vocal lines mixed with decent midtempo drumming and welladded electronic samples and keylines. The EP ends with 'It Ends Here' - another bashing midtempo industrial metal track. It's built on a spine of diverse and powerful drumming, decorated with good riffing and vocal lines.

The fact that Conteched changed drummers inbetween the release of 'Criminal Industry' and the release of 'In Poor Company' is clearly hearable within the drumsound. Where 'Criminal Industry' was mostly blessed with a more gentle electronic drumsound, on 'In Poor Company' it's more a "bash the skins" sound which gives it a lesser industrial sound. Fortunately there are still enough bleeps, cracks or wahwahs hidden within the sampling all over the song to give it a certain industrial attitude. If you like it heavy, you'll definitely dig this demo.
