Artist: ENERGY LEVEL LOW
Album: Han.naH
Year: 2009
Another free release coming from the Death To Music Productions camp - Energy Level Low is a one man project hailing from Poland, and existing of a chap (nick)named '303'. Among the influences mentioned on the MySpace page we find industrial metal bands such as Ministry and Nine Inch Nails, (gore)grind bands such as Last Days of Humanity, black metal bands such as Enthroned, full-speed drumcomputer grind bands such as Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Gigantic Brain - as well chaotic grind/crust bands such as Watchmaker. For the people who now have no idea what to expect - I'm with you on this quest! According to the biography, 'Han.naH' is Energy Level Low's 5th release up to date.
The release opens with 'Never Forgotten Humiliation'. It's a very diverse and experimental track, that opens with raw black metal tunes that are blessed with haunting keylines. It then gets followed by a quiet intermezzo, including small touches of ambient and minimal, to outburst in a more sensitive part with desperate clean vocals. After, there's a little intermezzo, to be followed by some more raw black (and death) metal tunes again featuring the haunting keylines. 'Bipolar' is as well blessed with a very raw sound, as well it contains bashing drumming that fits the vocal lines excellently. There's also some wicked sampling hidden within this track, that although its rawish attitude, is blessed with a few accessable touches (including a d-beat influenced little intermezzo !). 'Brand New Pain' consists of an electro metal songstructure, with strong heavy riffing and powerful drumming. Overall the song is maybe the most accessable track on the release, supported by it's mostly midtempo attitude and gentle electronic samples and keylines. 'The Longest Trip We Need To Go Through' follows. It's an 8 minute audio assult, sailing from electronic influenced melodic black metal to ambient passages, old school EBM touches and a quiet accoustic end. It's a very experimental track guiding you through a journey of it's creator. The release ends with 'Shore'. It shows a different experimental side of mister '303'. Musically it consists of triphop and breakbeat influences, combined with firm basspicks and rawish clean vocals fitting the music surprisingly well.
With 'Han.naH'- Polish Energy Level Low delivers a more than interesting free EP to add to your hard disks and iPods. If you're open minded enough for some very experimental and diverse tunes, crossing many traditional borders - then don't hesitate any longer.
