Artist: HOMEMADE ABORTION KIT
Album: The Jesus Scarecrow E.P.
Year: 2009
Homemade Abortion Kit is based in Tucson, Arizona and are made up of Kid Spazz (vocals and programming) and rage (guitar, programming and vocals). Their influences include the likes of Rammstien, AFI, Slayer and Slipknot.
First track, “Sitting in a Corner, So Pretty”, start with a loud speaker type spoken piece slow vocals and repetitive music. Chorus has an 80’s pop sound to it in a unique way. Ends with a spoken bit just as it started. Next track, “Orphan in The Fire( acoustic)”, song starts with a story type opening , before getting into the acoustic guitar and vocal this track brings back sounds of grunge music. Poorly produced track boring vocals and same sound throughout. Third track, “Red Christmas”, a mixture of drum sounds and slow spoken vocals adding in programming, production is lacking, and very mind numbing. Next track, “News Years Party”, starts with a solid sound that continues through out adding more sounds and drum tracks and vocals, this tracks vocals are shaky the production is well done though some of the sounds are strange. Fifth track, “Sitting in a Corner, So Pretty (Seductive Death Mix)”, interesting opening , distorted vocals give it a beginning that will have you listen closer to see where it will lead. This tracks composure is well done. Last track, “You Will Hit the Ground Sooner”, the beginning is more industrial with speaking vocals the music drowns out the vocals and is constant as are the vocals.
This EP is lacking in production sounding almost like children who are just learning music. A few tracks had promise in the musical production so maybe far in the future they will release an album worth listening to. I was numbed by this EP and will not be listening to it again.
