Artist: RUKIA
Album: Lithium Sarabin
Year: 2008
Rukia... wasn't that the Polish industrial metal/J-rock formation? Well, yes - they were indeed. Their debut release ´Seishin Assault´ had a nice review on this zine, but since then the band had some line-up changes and as well a different musical direction. ´Lithium Sarabin´ is a brand new release, which can be downloaded for free on their official website.
The release opens with the title track, a short and classical based track with uptempo drumming - to be followed by 'The Hammer of Mankind'. It contains beautiful piano and violin works, mixed with diverse vocals and gentle programming. 'Deus Ex Machina' is a more uptempo and more dark atmospheric track. It's build on a spine of piano and drumming, while added sensitive vocal lines, violin works and a gentle bassline. 'Paulin' includes accoustic guitars and clean, sensitive vocal lines. Near the end of this short, intermezzo song - we can find some piano and violin works. The release ends with a song called 'Snowdrops'. It's the track that comes the closest to industrial metal, without losing the original classical touches. It opens with dark ambient tunes, to be followed by an experimental track with wicked guitar work and gentle piano works and programming.
Compared to the 'Seishin Assault' release, the band lost most of it's (industrial) metal influences. In return, we got more orchestral influences on this release, which isn't worse at all - just it will probably fit lesser on this ezine. One thing that needs mentioning as well is the vocals. The clean vocals are much more improved, and there seems better control on the high desperate screams. Again, not a bad release, but it would probably be less appealing to the industrial metal fan than 'Seishin Assault'. You should give it a try though.
