Although Turmion Katilot is already quite popular by the majority of the followers of the industrial metal scene, it still manages to remain a wellkept secret to many people as well. This Finnish formation is trashing their instruments already since 2003, and released already some killer albums such as 'Hoitovirhe' and 'Pirun Nyrkki', as well an even more killer EP named 'Niuva 20'. Since their latest album came out two years ago, people were desperately waiting for a new one, which finally came in summer 2008. 'U.S.C.H!' is the lovely title of it, and it's available for free download at the Raha Records website!
The release opens with an intro called 'Vuosi 2008', to be followed by the title track 'U.S.C.H!'. It's a powerful and modern industrial metal track, with influences from future pop and EBM to cyber. The bashing drums fit the song excellently. 'Pakanamaan Kartta' continues walking that very same path. It contains wicked drumming and sampling, wave sounding passages and straight to the point riffing. 'Kuolleitten Laulu' is a short, and rather funny intermezzo, to be followed by 'Paha Musta Veri'. It's a midtempo and pretty accessable song, with an outgoing chorus and wicked riffing and programming. 'Minä Määrään' is an old school industrial metal based track, with no nonsense riffing and bashing programming. 'Destination Hades' is a very short track, with uptempo and midtempo industrial metal parts and some wave stuff, to be followed by 'Kuoleman Päivä'. It's a little more experimental (specially on the chorus), but still as powerful as ever. It's probably the most accessable song on this record, specially due to it´s gentle and modern keylines. 'Ari-se' is the best track of the release. It opens with cold, EBM influenced keylines, to be followed by brutal riffing and furiously bashing programming. The song contains as well accessable and catchy keylines and recogniseable vocal lines. The release ends with 'Shuttle To Venus'. It's a killer uptempo track, with hyperactive and wicked programming and excellent riffing. An excellent end of an excellent release.
'U.S.C.H!' is Turmion Katilot's best release until now. It's not only the most variative one, as well the most powerful one and definitely the most mature one. If you liked the older stuff, you can pick this one up blindly. If you're a fan of bands such as Rammstein, Punish Yourself, Oomph!, Blood and T3chn0ph0b1a - and you've never heard of Turmion Katilot yet... you should be ashamed and pick this one up immidiately as well!
